As opinions on meaning and value of music diverge sharply, a compromise is reached; that instead of a unitary global typology, there is a plurality of discrete music types that constantly engage stakeholders in musical creativity, performances, research, education, technology, polemics, and even governance. Within the known categories of folk, popular, art, and World Music exist a striking multiplicity of music genres and sub-genres that define the extent and ‘borders’ of today’s musical plurality.
